I'm in the process of doing a clutch job and downpipes right now. After almost 22 years of service on the original turbo exhaust studs/bolts/nuts, I figured I'd get new ones to replace the existing. It took about 3 solid hours of acetylene and vice grips to get the studs out. Unfortunately I broke off a 1/4 inch of one stud in the turbo exhaust housing. It is inset too, so nothing to grab onto.
What would be the best way to get that out? The transmission is obviously out of the way right now and I have a pretty good angle to get in there. Will easy-outs work on it? It seems like the studs are hardened or used locktite. Will I have to drill and re-tap? Is that even possible?
